Top foot care tips for Women

Whatever the weather, our feet deserve to be taken care of. During the warmer months, we’re used to keeping our feet well-groomed but that doesn’t mean that we should let this go during fall and winter. Stilettos and strappy sandals aren’t just reserved for summer and depending on the event or occasion or whether you are heading off on holiday or to the local swimming pool you should always be looking to put your best foot forward.

The good news is, you don’t need to break the bank to do that neither do you have to invest a ton of time.

Why foot care is important for women

Lack of proper foot care can lead to different skin complaints, mobility issues, bad smells, hard skin and discomfort that can be distracting and negatively affect your overall wellbeing.

We can all relate to day to day life taking its toll on our poor feet. Have you ever tried to squeeze your feet into tightly fitting shoes? Or letting your feet spend too long in shoes that rub or don’t allow your feet to breathe? Think of those times you’ve bought a pair of designer pumps that were a size too small simply because they were on sale and looked too cute to pass up? It’s for these reasons and more that your feet require adequate care.

Now, let’s go straight to the best foot care tips you should consider to keep your feet in excellent shape.

Clean Your Feet

Wash your pantyhose often:

If you love to wear pantyhose to accentuate your legs in a dress, it is important to note that your feet will get sweaty underneath them. That’s why you must remember to wash after each use to avoid smelly feet and in some cases, foot infections.

Wash your feet to prevent athlete’s foot:

Athlete’s Foot is a common condition which affects women who usually wear tight shoes. It is a scaly, itchy and sometimes painful rash that appears along the soles of the feet and in between toes. Prevent or control this by washing your feet especially between your toes daily with soap and water; also make sure they are thoroughly dry afterwards.

Soak your feet:

Soak your feet for about 10 minutes in warm water with a little liquid soap containing skin softeners to soften hard skin. Proceed to smooth away dry skin and calluses with a foot file or pumice stone to keep your feet fresh and clean. If you prefer, you can visit a nail salon for a pedicure where professional nail technicians will ensure they are healthy and clean.

Moisturize your feet:

Moisturise your feet after washing. During winter months when the skin gets dry, you should consider moisturizing several times a day with lotions or creams.

Dry your feet:

Be sure to dry your feet completely after washing, including between the toes. This helps to reduce the chances of problems like athlete’s foot, odour, bacteria and fungus infections.

Protect Them

Wear Alternate shoes:

Wearing only heels or narrow toe shoes (that are often tight around the toes) is a welcome invitation to bunions. A bunion is formed when a person’s big toe pushes against the next toe and is caused by tight shoes, foot stress and arthritis. You can avoid getting bunions by enlarging your footwear style options to include not just heels but flats, wedges, box heels and decreasing stress on your foot. If you already noticed bunions forming, you can treat it by changing your shoes, padding the foot and opting for pain medication.

Air out your shoes:

Shoes need time to air out to avoid triggering foot infections or odours. Always air out your shoes in a well-ventilated area if you notice a smelly sneaker, dust in baking soda before putting in storage to soak up the odour. If, however, you have a problem with smelly feet, soak them in a mixture of vinegar and water to eliminate the smell.

Go on and enjoy beautiful and healthy feet when you practice these tips. Don't let any shoe stand in your way of expressing that style!
